Cotton
Canvas is smooth, tough and densely woven, making it stain and scratch-resistant. Canvas is one of those materials that will last you a long time.
Cotton
Cotton is a soft material that’s very comfortable to sit on. Cotton retains its colour well but does absorb stains and spillages to some degree, so it can be tricky to clean by hand, so removal and the washing machine are usually required.
Denim
Denim is another tightly woven cotton (like canvas). It’s tough and hard-wearing, easy to clean, and resistant to scratching.
Faux Leather
Faux Leather is an excellent choice for those who like Leather but don’t want to pay the premium or have ethical reasons. Faux Leather has a backing layer of polyester or cotton and then a plastic top that’s treated to create the leather look. A durable, easy-to-clean material.
Linen
Linen is a joy to sit on, a thin yet soft material. While linen excells in comfort, it lacks in durability and cleanability, wearing out quicker than other materials and making it difficult to remove stains.
Leather
Leather is a soft and durable material that’s easy to clean as most spillages and animal fur are removed in one wipe. However, cat claw marks are very noticeable on Leather.
Microfibre
Microfibre is created from synthetic materials such as polyester and nylon. Microfibre is durable with a good level of comfort, has moderate stain-removing abilities and may need a rubber brush to remove animal fur.
Nylon
Nylon is a tough and easy-to-clean material that retains its colour for a long duration. A good choice if you want a material that will last you a good while.
Polyester
Polyester is an excellent all-around material. It’s soft. It’s fairly durable, holds its colour and cleans nicely. Many Ikea sofas and armchairs come with Polyester covers as standard. A good choice if you want a cover to tick all boxes.
Vinyl
Vinyl is a synthetic hard-wearing whipe clean material with a shiny appearance and unique look. It is reasonably priced, extremely easy to clean and should last a long time.
Velvet
Velvet is silky and soft, a comfortable material that’s nice to sit on good durability and not too hard to remove spillages, stains and animal fur.
